Tanoa Hotel Group Observes World Nature Conservation Day 2024

The Tanoa Hotel Group acknowledges the need to raise awareness and act on the urgent need to protect our planet’s natural resources. As the impacts of climate change and habitat destruction become more evident, Nature Conservation Day serves as a crucial reminder of our responsibility to safeguard the environment for future generations.

While World Conservation Day was observed on Sunday, 28 July, The Tanoa Hotel Group Fiji Team were out and about on Saturday 27 July doing their share to help through their little acts – big impacts sustainability initiatives.

Team Tanoa Waterfront was up early and started cleaning the shorefront at Marine Drive Lautoka from 5.00am as it was low tide, covering a much larger area. Their effort resulted in them collecting 150.6kg of foreign items and got them sorted for recycling or disposing at the designated areas.

Team Tanoa International, Nadi dedicated their time and effort to clean up Wailoaloa Beachfront, a popular public picnic spot for locals and tourists alike. They collected an alarming 249.5kg of rubbish from this spot.

Team Skylodge cleaned their front (roadside) area and were surprised to rake in 169.2kg of rubbish despite cleaning the area on a regular basis.

Team Tanoa Plaza, Suva also did their share of rubbish collection and made Suva shore 50.1kg cleaner from plastics and cardboards.

“All in all, a great team effort from most of the Tanoa Hotels, said Mr. Narend Kumar, Area General Manager Fiji. It is not only about the rubbish collection but more towards educating our team and the community at large”, added Mr. Kumar.

“The team collectively picked up 619.4kg of waste from which 178.1kg (plastic bottles, aluminium cans, cardboard, glass bottles) was sorted and sent for recycling. The team was pleased with their overall effort in contributing positively towards the World Nature Conservation Day awareness”, stated Mr Kumar in summing up the rubbish collection by Tanoa Hotels Fiji.

Roneel Ravinesh Chand, Tanoa Hotels’ Sustainability Manager said that we must value the importance of biodiversity and the vital role that healthy ecosystems play in sustaining life on Earth. Tanoa Hotel Group believes that by making conscious choices, each person can contribute to a healthier, more resilient planet and he was delighted with every one’s contribution in supporting the company’s effort with their little acts, big impact to help “Plan (et) for the future – A Tanoa Hotel Group initiative towards sustainability.
